MicroPlastics Analysis

​NaGISA added the Microplastics Analysis to the program in the 2017-2018 year. This analysis is in collaboration with the Florida Sea Grant Association. Small plastic objects and materials floating in the water is a large issue in the Gulf of Mexico, and are harmful to a large variety of sea life. For this analysis, The NaGISA Dive Team collects a liter of water at all the diving depths (1M, 5M, 10M, 15M, and 20M), and analyze the number and types of plastic in the samples. This analysis is a complicated process that requires several days separated by long lengths of time to get the most accurate results.
